Last week, the Noordhollands Dagblad published a nice article about improving the acoustics in the foyer of theater de Kampanje. We are very proud of our contribution to this great project with great results. Here's the article:

From now on, guests of theater de Kampanje can have conversations in the foyer of the main hall without being bothered by annoying sound reflections.

Especially for the Campaign, six large chandeliers were designed that are attached to the existing lights in the foyer. Acoustic panels have been incorporated into the chandeliers to attenuate reflections. In addition, a fifteen-metre-long acoustic panel was placed on the glass wall depicting what it used to look like at the Oude Rijkswerf Willemsoord. “The solution that was sought therefore not only improves the acoustics in the foyer, but also the appearance”, explains Kim Smit van de Kampanje. The acoustic adjustments were designed and carried out by Akoesta from Oostzaan.

Wishlist

The theater management had been on its wish list for some time to adapt the acoustics in the foyer. “We regularly hold satisfaction surveys”, says theater director Arjaen Kersten. ,, There is also space for comments from the guests. The acoustics in the foyer were often mentioned.”

In the foyer, the sound echoes against brick, concrete and glass, says Kim Smit. This resulted in poor acoustics. ,, We spoke to several companies. But they couldn't guarantee that the solutions they proposed would work. Improving acoustics is expensive. Because no guarantees could be given, we were afraid to do it. Until we ended up at Akoesta in Oostzaan. They said, “This is the solution. We're sure it works.”

Akoesta has made six chandeliers from lamps that the Kampanje already had, containing acoustic absorption panels. A fifteen-metre-long acoustic panel depicting the Old Rijkswerf was placed on the glass wall. Kim Smit: “At the opening of the theater season, we received a lot of nice reactions from our guests. Some people were completely moved because they knew people who worked at the shipyard who are no longer there. We are very happy that a nice solution has been found that also works.”

thankful

The total operation cost around 80,000 euros. The Friends of the Campaign Foundation has contributed more than 50,000 euros to the plan. Director Kersten: “We are very grateful that this was made possible by the Friends. Without them, we would not have been able to do this. The acoustic adjustment of the foyer has been at the top of our wish list for a long time. The fact that it has actually been done with a great result is great. From now on, it's nice to stay in the foyer before, between and after the performance.”

The wish list is far from empty, assures director Kersten: “Even for the foyer, there are even more wishes, such as additional furniture and landscaping. But we are always going one step further. The great contribution from the Friends and the donations we receive help us enormously with this.”
