This is what millennials are looking for in a workplace
Millennials are no longer just selecting at work itself, but for the total package, including at the workplace.
I'm sure you haven't missed it. The 'war on talent' is underway. It is now more important than ever to make your company attractive to the new generation. The Millennials (born 1980-2000) no longer only select at work itself, but for the total package, including at the workplace. In fact, a global study of 13,000 millennials shows that as many as 78% consider the quality of the workplace important when looking for a job (CBRE, 2016). What should that workplace look like then? We figured it out for you.
No office garden
If you want to attract the best talent, you want to create the ideal workplace for the millennial. And even to our surprise, that is not a trendy office garden with a slide or a ball pit. Contrary to what many people think, only 33 percent of millennials prefer to work in a large office garden. Two-thirds of this generation prefer to work in their own office space or a space that is only shared with a few colleagues (CBRE, 2016).
Sustainable though
What millennials do value is sustainability, in the broadest sense of the word. In fact, millennials look more at how an organization focuses on people, products, and purpose than at how it focuses on profits. In addition, this generation believes that attention to ergonomics and healthy working is an absolute must. Sit/stand tables, desk bikes and more keep these young employees, who often sit behind screens all day, healthy and happy.
Above all: practical
Above all, the millennial is looking for an extension of his personal environment. Do you really want to unpack? Then you offer services such as dry cleaning and childcare at the workplace. Everything to make life as easy as possible for the millennial. But what is also sufficient for many is a warm atmosphere and a quiet place with good acoustics. In short, an inspiring place that stimulates creativity and innovation.
