Soundproofing
Noise pollution can be very annoying, fortunately you can do something about it with insulation. When it comes to sound insulation, there are two different types of noise sources, namely outside noise and noise from inside...
Sound insulation: a good way to combat noise pollution
Sound insulation or acoustic insulation is the protection of a room from outside noise. Sometimes also from the inside out (for example a nightclub). Sound insulation distinguishes between airborne noise and impact noise.
Air noises and contact noises:
Air sounds: spread through the air, they cause the boundary surfaces of the room to vibrate, which creates noise. Examples include music and talking.
Contact noises: caused by vibrations in the structure that in turn make the air vibrate so that we can perceive the sound. Examples of contact sounds include footsteps and heavy trucks passing by.
Prevent sound leaks:
To give the most effect when using the sound insulation material, make sure there are no sound leaks and that you fill the spaces completely. Do you forget to insulate a piece? Then the sound insulation will only partially work. For example, if you do not completely fill the space between a first floor, you get a kind of sound box so that you can still hear both air sounds and contact sounds. Also check carefully that noise cannot spread through ventilation ducts, air vents, crevices under doors or cracks, for example. A window can also be a sound leak. If the walls are insulated very well, but the window is only single-glazed, a lot of noise will still be let through.
